THE Nith Hotel bars

Pubs near Dumfries!

Looking for somewhere to drink in Dumfries, or nearby? Just a short distance from Dumfries, in the beautiful surroundings of Glencaple village, The Nith Hotel pub is a cool place to be in the height of summer. Sitting on the shores of the River Nith looking over to Criffel, it is also a cosy corner to come to in the depths of winter. A warm welcome awaits you at any time of year! Come and have a blether with friendly faces, pat a local dog or two, or just be with your thoughts in the relaxed atmosphere of the pub.

The cocktail bar is just as friendly! Within the lounge, the surroundings are a comfortable mix of open tables and smaller, quieter areas. We also have a roaring fire to warm the cockles in the winter!

Of course, drinks are always available with your food, or at a special occasion function. Whether it be a champagne celebration, a delicate wine, a pint of something refreshing or a couple of shots after pudding. There is something at the Nith Hotel bars for everyone!

Restaurant Bar

The main restaurant bars are open every evening from 5pm.

Cocktail Bar

Our Cocktail Bar is located in the lounge area. You will find it open every day, offering a fine selection of wines, beers and spirits.

Public Bar

Alongside the main Restaurant and Lounge, The Nith Hotel Public Bar is the ideal location where visitors can mix with locals. This is where Glencaple villagers and some of the characters of Caerlaverock can be found.

The walls are adorned with memorabilia. This includes that from Billy Houliston, the former Queen of the South and Scotland football international in the 1940s. Billy owned the Nith Hotel prior to his late son Keith and wife Joan. On the football theme, Paul Gascoine also stayed in the hotel! See if you can find his picture on the wall.  And look out for the England cap too.
The ‘Sarissa Dumfries’ plaque above the bar was the name of Keith Houlison’s boat. It was named after his two elder daughters Sarah and Melissa. When Jennifer came along, the boat was re-named ‘The Sarissa–J, Dumfries’.

Take a seat in the sun lounge, with a relaxed ambience, where you can enjoy eating a meal as well as having a drink!
